Brilliant. Agree that clients will always need trusted partners to externalize complexity.

Where AI currently makes the most impact is on production. Production is becoming cheaper at scale.

So for generalist agencies that compete on making a lot, fast, and consistent, margins compress, retainers unbundle, and lean AI-native shops emerge that can deliver volume work with dramatically smaller teams.

The industry bifurcates. High-value strategic relationships remain, while the mid-size generalist shop faces genuine existential pressure.

If AI induces demand a la “widening highways,” what is the “commuter” rail in this stretched analogy, ie the old school tech that actually IS more efficient but is definitely not sexy and requires major upfront investment?
